1. Doom Eternal

Players once again take on the role of the Doom Slayer, an ancient warrior who battles the demonic forces of Hell, from a first-person perspective. The game continues its predecessor’s emphasis on”push-forward” combat, encouraging the player to aggressively engage enemies in order to acquire health and ammo. The player has access to various firearms, such as the Combat Shotgun, Super Shotgun, Heavy Cannon, Rocket Launcher, Plasma Rifle, and Ballista. Melee weapons such as a chainsaw, the”Crucible Blade” energy sword and a retractable arm-blade can also be used. The arm-blade provides the opportunity for a larger variety of quick and violent”glory kill” executions. The Super Shotgun is now equipped with a”Meat Hook”, which slingshots the player towards an enemy, functioning as a grappling hook in both combat scenarios and environmental navigation. Armaments including missiles, grenade launchers and flamethrowers can also be attached to the Doom Slayer’s armor. New movement mechanics such as wall-climbing and dash moves will also be introduced.

4. Death Stranding

Death Stranding is an action game set in an open world, which also includes multiplayer functions. Kojima compared the genre to how his earlier game Metal Gear – now considered to be a stealth game – was called an action game during its release because the stealth genre was not considered to exist at the time.

According to Kojima, one of the key aspects of the announcement trailer was the idea of a connection between life and death. He explained one of the main themes through a short story by Kōbō Abe; the first tool created by humans was a stick, meant as protection by putting a distance between oneself and”bad things “, and that the second was a rope, used to secure things one finds important. Kojima compared the main”tools ” in action games – punching, shooting and kicking – to sticks, and that in Death Stranding, he wants people to communicate through the game equivalent of ropes. While the title refers to the phenomenon of cetacean stranding,”strand ” is an alternative term for shore and also stands for strings and connections.

6. Borderlands 3

Borderlands 3 is a loot-driven first-person shooter. Players, either playing alone or in parties up to four people, make a character from one of four classes available, and take on various missions given out by non-playable characters (NPCs) and at bounty boards to gain experience, in-game monetary rewards, and reward items. Players can also gain these items by defeating enemies throughout the game. As the player gains level, they gain skills points to allocate across a skill tree. The game introduces four new playable characters: Amara, a”Siren ” who summons ethereal fists; Moze, a young”Gunner ” who rides the mecha Iron Bear; Zane, an”Operative ” with a variety of gadgets; and FL4K, a robot”Beastmaster ” who summons creatures to aid in fights. Unlike previous Borderlands games where each character had only one unique skill that operates on a cooldown, each character in the new game can unlock three unique skills, though only one (or in Zane’s case, two) can be equipped at a time, greatly expanding the number of potential character builds a player can make.

7. Control

Like Remedy’s previous projects, Control is played from a third-person perspective, and is built using Remedy’s proprietary Northlight Engine, which was first used on the company’s previous title Quantum Break. As Jesse Faden, players wield the Service Weapon, a supernatural firearm that can be adapted into a variety of different forms with different combat applications. In addition to the Service Weapon, Jesse also possesses a variety of supernatural abilities, including telekinesis, levitation, and the ability to control certain enemies. The Service Weapon and Jesse’s abilities both expend Jesse’s energy, necessitating a balance in their usage. The Service Weapon can be upgraded throughout the game via a skill tree; in order to gain new powers, players must locate various Objects of Power – ordinary items acted upon by supernatural forces – hidden throughout the Oldest House. Due to the versatility of the game’s loadouts, Control’s combat system can be customized and balanced to each player’s personal preferences. Health in Control does not recharge automatically, and must be picked up from fallen enemies.

8. Two-Point Hospital

Two Point Hospital is a 2018 business simulation game developed by Two Point Studios and published by Sega for Linux, MacOS, and Microsoft Windows. Console versions for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch are planned in late 2019. A spiritual successor to Bullfrog Productions’ 1997 game Theme Hospital, players are tasked with constructing and operating an empire of hospitals in the fictional Two Point County, with the goal of curing patients of fictitious, comical ailments.
